Obama To Block Abuse Photos Because They’re Out Of Focus
Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 07:10AM (Washington DC) When President Barack Obama took office he said that his administration would be transparent about everything including torture. But yesterday the president and his administration became down right translucent when he said that he would block the release of photos showing U.S. troops abusing prisoners.
“I am blocking these photos not because I’m conceding to Dick Cheney or the military, but because these photos are out of focus,” said Obama. “And I will not subject the American people to out of focus photos.”
“Trust me, this is for the public’s own good,” said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. “Because if the president released these photos, our enemies would think that we don’t know how to use a camera. And in today’s image driven world, we can’t have that.”
Senator John McCain is among several Republicans who agree with President Obama’s decision. “My friends, withholding these photos is the right thing to do, because everything about them – the composition, the aperture value, the focal length of the lens, the ISO speed and the ungodly lack of focus – just sucks.”
“I’ll say this guys. These photos suck so bad, they look like they were taken by Stevie Wonder,” said President Obama before boarding Marine One.
Not even five seconds later Obama reappeared. “Scratch what I just said. That was insulting to Stevie. Because I know that even during a blackout, he would never take photos this bad…So let me be crystal clear, I am blocking the abuse photos for no other reason than the fact that, even when judged by the most amateurish of standards, these photos are really, really, really bad...Now who wants some healthcare?”
